Worley Joins Alford's Staff At Nevada
Steve Alford added to his Nevada staff this week by hiring one of his former players at Iowa.
Glen Worley, who played at Iowa from 2000-04, was hired by Alford to be Nevada's director of player development.
Worley takes over the role vacated by Alford's son, Kory, who was hired as Huntington University's head coach earlier this summer.
Worley was part of one NCAA tournament team and three NIT teams at Iowa. He is part of Iowa's 1,000-point club, finishing his career with 1,060 points.
Worley averaged 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in his career. His best season came as a junior, when he averaged 10.9 points and 5.2 rebounds and had a career-high 34 blocks.
“I truly enjoyed coaching Glen at Iowa,” Alford said in a statement released Friday. “He was a great player and teammate. His experience at a high level in both of those areas will benefit our team and program in numerous ways.”
Worley was teaching at Ideate High Academy in San Diego and recently was an assistant girls basketball coach at Mater Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista, Calif. The team posted a 20-10 record and reached the regional semifinals.
Prior to that, Worley was an assistant coach at Fullerton College in Fullerton, Calif. He also worked as the assistant men's basketball coach at Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Worley spent three seasons at Serra High School in San Diego as the varsity head boys basketball coach. The team posted a 47-37 record in his three seasons and won the 2014 Eastern League championship.
He was the head varsity and assistant boys basketball coach at Lincoln High School in San Diego for two seasons, where he helped the team to consecutive CIF San Diego Section Division II Championships and a top 10 USA ranking. The team won two Western League Championships, going undefeated both years. In 2010 LHS won the SoCal Regional and in 2011 were the top-ranked team in California. The 2010 squad captured the state title.
Worley played professional basketball for three seasons in Australia, Venezuela, Ireland, Belgium and Tijuana.
