IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Denver Broncos picked Iowa cornerback Riley Moss in the third round of NFL Draft on Friday night with the 83rd overall selection. The Ankeny, Iowa native became the 12th Hawkeye defensive back chosen since 2010. He joined Michael Ojemudia, Geno Stone and Dane Belton as draftees during this decade.

Moss (6-1, 193) ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash at February's draft combine in Indianapolis. His RAS score of 9.89 ranked third among cornerbacks during the testing behind only Maryland's Deonte Banks (9.99) and Oregon's Christian Gonzalez (9.96), both of whom were picked in Thursday's first round.

An Iowa captain in '22, Moss was selected first-team all-Big Ten by coaches for the second season in a row. He was named the conference's defensive back of the year in '21.

Known for delivering big plays, Moss ranks second in career interception return yards (239) at Iowa and is one of four players in program history with three interception return touchdowns. His 11 career picks are the seventh most.

Moss originally committed to the Hawkeyes as a gray-shirt, meaning he would pay for his first semester of school and then join the team in January of his freshman year. That turned into a regular scholarship offer before he arrived.

That worked out well for the Iowa, who needed him during his true-freshman Fall. He played in all of the team's 13 games and started five. He ended up starting 40 times in his college career, including all 32 contests for which he was available during the last three seasons.

Moss arrived at Iowa as a two-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite ranking. That service saw him as the No. 13 player overall in the state for '18 and the 248th best cornerback nationally for the cycle.

As a senior at Ankeny Centennial, Moss won the 110-meter hurdles and the Drake Relays and the state meet. He earned elite all-state honors in football and track as a 12th-grader.
