Iowa Football Releases New Depth Chart
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The 2023 Iowa Football team kicked off spring practice Wednesday. The 15-practice period was expected to wrap up with an open workout at Kinnick Stadium next month.
The Hawkeyes released a new depth chart as part of the session. It illustrated the usual change of the guard in college football in plenty of areas.
Here are a few:
-Unsurprisingly, Michigan transfer Cade McNamara turned up as QB1. Returning redshirt sophomore Joe Labas was listed as the No. 2 with Wisconsin transfer Deacon Hill sitting third.
-Redshirt freshman walk-on Reese Osgood joined classmate Jacob Bostick as a backup receiver behind starter Nico Ragaini. Diante Vines was listed as the other No. 1 with Alec Wick being a backup.
-Left offensive tackle Mason Richman, left guard Connor Colby and center Logan Jones showed up as return starters along with Beau Stephens at right guard and Nick DeJong at right tackle. Backups from left to right were Jack Dotzler, Tyler Elsbury, Mike Myslinski, Gennings Dunker and Daijon Parker.
-Jay Higgins and Carson Sharar are at No. 1 middle and weak-side linebacker, respectively, with Jaden Harrell and Kyler Fisher as the backups. At the LEO/Cash spot, Sebastian Castro, Kelby Telander and Jaxon Rexroth are one through three.
-Xavier Nwankpa is listed as the No. 1 strong safety with Castro as the backup. Koen Entringer is No. 2 at free safety behind returning starter Quinn Schulte. Cooper DeJean and Jermari Harris show up as the cornerback starters with TJ Hall and Deshaun Lee as the backups.
-No surprises at running back with Kaleb Johnson, LeShon Williams and Jaziun Patterson holding down the top three spots.
-From left to right on the defensive front, Deontae Craig joins returning starters Noah Shannon, Logan Lee and Joe Evans. Max Llewellyn, Aaron Graves, Yahya Black and Ethan Hurkett are posted on the two line.
-True sophomore Addison Ostrenga is listed as the No. 3 tight end with Michigan transfer Erick All at No. 2 and Luke Lachey as the starter.
