Game Primer and LIVE Blog: Houston at Kansas Basketball
It might be the game of the year in the Big 12, as the Kansas Jayhawks host the Houston Cougars in Lawrence today with a spot at the front of the conference on the line. The Jayhawks have lost three games on the road in conference, but have several impressive wins at home this season. Houston is blitzing their way through the Big 12 as first-year members of the conference, and is one of a handful of teams that are legitimate national title contenders.
Kansas fell in the polls this week, losing a single spot in each poll. They have the 8th ranking in the AP Poll and 9th ranking in the Coaches Poll is the lowest ranking for the Jayhawks this season. Houston is #4 in both polls, with their only blemishes being two straight road losses a couple of weeks ago.
The Jayhawks lead the all-time series 5-2, including a 2-1 mark in Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas has won the last three meetings, with the most recent coming in Lahaina, HI as part of the 2001 Maui Invitational. The only win for Houston in Allen Fieldhouse was the first meeting back in 1967 in the NCAA Midwest Regional.
