The Kansas Jayhawks head back out on the road for the final game of the regular season, and it comes against a team that has both clinched a share of the Big 12 title and are hungry for more. The Houston Cougars would rather not share the regular season title with the Iowa State Cyclones, but they need to shut down a Kansas squad that finally appears to have found their footing this season.

Would I love to pick Kansas here? Of course! Will I? No, sorry. Houston has a clear argument (aided by the polls and metrics) for being the best team in the country and the Fertitta Center is a really challenging place to win. I actually don’t hate the way Kansas matches up with Houston considering the Cougars aren’t the kind of team who just firebombs you from three-point range, but even the most ardent optimists about this Jayhawks team (often including myself) have to have a hard time taking KU in this one. That said, if Nicolas Timberlake continues his momentum from senior night and lights it up against this defense, maybe there really is something cooking for him.

Houston 76, Kansas 67.

I’m with Brendan here. The last two games, yes, even the loss at Baylor, were steps in the right direction for Kansas, but this game is a different monster. Perhaps I’d feel better about it if Houston wasn’t vying for an outright Big XII title and a number one seed in the big dance, but they are. And we all remember KU beating Houston a while back despite committing approximately 652 turnovers to Houston’s three, so I again agree with Brendan that KU matches up well, but the implications of this game are too much tilted in Houston’s favor to pick Kansas. That said, I can see Furphy breaking out of his mini-slump and Kansas keeping it close and entertaining.

Houston, 72, Kansas 68.

This is potentially the game of the year. Houston has been dominant all year long however Kansas has shown shades of dominance as well just not to the extent of Houston. Kansas is a team who struggles on the road so I will go with Houston however… it will be close.

Houston 71, Kansas 80

In the words of The Black-Eyed Peas, "I got a feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night" I understand what the guys are saying, that this is a chance for Houston to clinch the undisputed Big 12 title outright. But the loss of Jojo Tugler is bigger than many people probably realize.  UCF wasn't in a good position to take full advantage of it, but they got close to scoring an upset. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but Kansas already handled this team once at home, they are at full strength and they have more going for them than in the original matchup. Specifically, give me Nicolas Timberlake with 5+ three pointers off the bench to score the upset.

Kansas 71, Houston 70.
