Just 3 days after the Kansas trio of seniors seemingly couldn't be stopped, the Baylor Bears were able to stifle the Jayhawks as they pulled away in the second half to get a crucial road victory early in Big 12 play.

Holly Kersgieter, Zakiyah Franklin and Taiyanna Jackson, who combined to score 67 points on Wednesday, were held to just a combined 28 points on 10-28 shooting. Wyvette Mayberry scored 19 to lead the Jayhawks, but it wasn't enough as Baylor increased their lead throughout the game for the double digit victory.

From the beginning of the game, the Bears looked like the team with more energy, and they attacked Kansas early. Kansas head coach Brandon Schneider noted they were "the more aggressive team today" in his postgame comments, something that was clearly reflected by Baylor outrebounding the Jayhawks by 14.

Early in the game, it looked like the Jayhawks were going to get a complete game from everyone on the floor, as 4 different players scored to push the Jayhawks to a five point lead, But Baylor head coach Nicki Collen indicated that the Bears "knew we needed to play downhill" and they did, driving into the lane early and often. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs scored the first three baskets for Baylor on layups, and Baylor went on a 10-2 run to end the quarter with a three point lead.

The second quarter started with another flurry of Kansas scoring, as Mayberry splashed in a three-pointer to tie it before Jackson hit a couple free throws, but once again the Bears adjusted and went on a large run in the second half of the period. Mayberry was able to claw back a couple points to shrink the margin to 5.

The Jayhawks didn't go quietly in the second half, as they were able to shrink the all the way to 2 points in the third quarter and 4 points in the fourth quarter. However, each time they made a run, the Bears would adjust and respond with a run of their own.

As Coach Brandon explained, "Baylor did a really good job of taking away our first option", after which Kansas "went to one-on-one play, which against elite on-ball defenders, isn't a good recipe" for success. To his point, ball movement seemed to be lacking late in the game and the Jayhawks only finished the game with 6 assists on 23 made baskets.

After Zakiyah Franklin was able to get Kansas back to within 4 with just 2:43 left in the game, the Bears ended the game on a 10-1 run, ending any hope of a comeback.

Only three Kansas players scored in double digits, with Mayberry's 19 being accompanied by 11 from Kersgieter and 11 from Chandler Prater, who fouled out late in the fourth quarter.

Taiyanna Jackson ended the game with 8 points and 8 rebounds, but was dealing with foul trouble for much of the second half, also fouling out of the game.

It's a quick turnaround for the Jayhawks, as they travel to Austin on Tuesday to take on the Longhorns. Last season, they upset the 13th ranked Longhorns down in Austin in overtime.
