Kansas State vs Kansas Basketball Predictions: Senior Night Special

Will the Jayhawks send their seniors out with a win over the Wildcats?

Kansas State vs Kansas Basketball Predictions: Senior Night Special /

The Kansas Jayhawks are back at home for the final time this season, and the final matchup comes against the rival Kansas State Wildcats. The Jayhawks are looking to break a two-game losing streak and prevent a two-game losing streak at home. The Wildcats are in a last-ditch effort to try and get back into the realm of contending for the NCAA Bubble.

Kansas is a huge favorite in this game, but we have seen some really strange things this season. Can the Jayhawks avoid another letdown and avoid a huge hit to their NCAA Tournament seed? Or will Kansas State snag another set of bragging rights and continue the free-fall for the Jayhawks?

Even though this has been one of the most inconsistent Kansas teams in recent years, there’s one thing that you can count on: a win on senior night in Allen Fieldhouse. And what better opponent than the Kansas State Wildcats, a bad team who already upset KU once this year. I’m looking for the Fieldhouse to be amped one last time this season, and why not, gimme Michael Jankovich to score the game’s first bucket.

Kansas 80, K-State 67.

Kansas and Kansas State are both coming off of losses in their last competition. However the loss that Kansas State took was to the ice cold Cincinnati Bearcats. They were dominated until the end of the game in which they made a comeback and Cinci hit a game winner. Kansas took a loss on the road to a tough Baylor team but showed promise. This game feels like a bit of a blowout.

I think this game will actually be relatively competitive, but I still think the ‘Hawks will handle their business. K-State turns it over a ton and the Allen Fieldhouse crowd should be rocking for this game. KU has to avoid playing too tightly, that’s been an issue on senior night a few years in a row now. Hunter Dickinson should be able to thrive against a mediocre K-State front line, and even a “decent” defensive effort should be enough. I can’t see Kansas losing consecutive games at home, especially not against this team given *waves generally at decades of history.*

I can't in good conscience pick against the Jayhawks here. Sure, Kansas has had some trouble recently. But Kevin McCullar is back, Kansas has destroyed much better teams than the Wildcats at home, and Kansas State doesn't have any of the traits that you would expect to give the Jayhawks fits. The game being a rivalry matchup can only take you so far, and it's not like the Wildcats have a ton of depth to lean on. Give me Kansas in a game that is going to be tense at times but will ultimately end in a big win for the home team.

Kansas 84, Kansas State 68.
