Oklahoma Sooners at Kansas Jayhawks Basketball Predictions: Who Bounces Back?
The Kansas Jayhawks suffered a huge upset at the hands of the UCF Knights earlier this week. But tomorrow they get to come home to the friendly confines of Allen Fieldhouse to get back on track against a ranked Oklahoma Sooners squad.
Oklahoma suffered their own big loss on the road this week, losing to the same TCU Horned Frogs team that pushed the Jayhawks to the brink in the home opener. Can the Jayhawks get right back to winning, or will the combination of the pressure and a talented Sooners lineup be enough to turn a single loss into a skid?

I have no idea what to predict on anything anymore after the debacle in Orlando. Oklahoma is good, but are they as good as their record? Who knows! They recently lost away to TCU which played Kansas to the wire and was unlucky to leave Lawrence with a loss, so I’m not sure what to expect. Two things I do know are 1) Bill Self is probably more than a little ticked after the loss to the Knights and 2) the game is at Allen Fieldhouse where KU rarely loses. Because of number two, I’ll take the Jayhawks in this one.

How will this team respond to embarrassing adversity? That’s the overall theme of this one for me and it very well could set the tone for how I view the rest of the season, or at least the next couple of weeks. Kansas gets to return home to the friendly confines of Allen Fieldhouse, and hopefully the move to start Johnny Furphy instead of Elmarko Jackson pays dividends. I don’t know what that will do for Jackson off the bench and if he’ll respond well, but hopefully it can at least provide a spark to start the game. Oklahoma is athletic and much faster than they’ve been in recent years, but I’ll take the angry (and hopefully/probably embarrassed) Jayhawks to return to form.

If you look at Kenpom, Kansas and Oklahoma are as close as you can possibly get to each other, with remarkably similar strengths and weaknesses. Neither team is able to avoid turnovers well, but neither defense is well equipped to take full advantage of that. Both teams are coming off of tough road losses, but only the Jayhawks will have the luxury of playing at home. Johnny Furphy has earned that starting spot, but we’ll have to see just how well he acclimates to that role. Both Derek and Brendan are right that this game is going to have a bunch of emotion, but I hope that the Jayhawks harness it to their advantage instead of letting it get the best of them.
