The countdown jumps back over to the Rock Chalk Podcast for today's entry, as I'm following up Kyle's preview of the West Virginia Mountaineers with a conversation with Brandon Phoenix of the Raspy Voice Kids. We dove into what's changed for the Mountaineers this offseason and how that translates into expectations for the team. Plus, we looked at potential areas for concern and then looked over the schedule to see where West Virginia can get wins for bowl eligibility.

The episode gets started with the biggest story of the offseason for West Virginia: the addition of JT Daniels through the transfer portal. We look at how that has affected expectations for the season, and the difference between the fan reaction and the reaction in Vegas.

From there, we look at how West Virginia's improvement from last season stacks up with others in the Big 12 conference, and why the win expectations may have moved in the opposite direction of what most fans think should happen.

From there, we look through the rest of the team, starting with the offense. What other guys either return or have arrived to help Daniels turn around an offense that can only be described as disappointing last season?

With the defense being the strength of this team, many who don't follow the program closely can be forgiven for just assuming that the defense is going to be good again this year. But while the defensive line is stout and the linebackers should be at least comparable to last season, there are some big potential holes in the secondary that might cause some problems this season.

After running through the roster, we took a look at the schedule, including an interesting proposition involving the possibility of losing to the Jayhawks in exchange for wins over some big non-conference rivals. Ultimately, we end up talking through what seems to be most likely for this team, and which games are circled for most Mountaineer fans.
