Biggest Depth Chart Update is Delayed Return Decision for Daniels

The Kansas Jayhawks have not made any significant depth chart changes, but on the back of the stellar performance for Jason Bean, a decision on Jalon Daniels is not imminent.

The Kansas Jayhawks finally saw some more changes to the depth chart this week, and that wasn't unexpected given all the combinations that multiple minor injuries caused to show up on the field against Oklahoma State.

We didn't expect there to be any significant changes throughout the rest of the season, but some minor changes in the second string was expected, and we finally got that this week. However, there was no indication from the depth chart on the status of Jalon Daniels, as the "OR" designation is still there for the quarterback position.

Here is the 2-deep as released by Kansas Athletics earlier this week. It is still subject to change based on practices and during the week gameplanning. Players in italics are not expected to play due to mid-week updates

Takeaways

There were a couple minor changes on the two-deep, with Emory Duggar and Luke Hosford switches spots on the depth chart and Michael Ford slotting in as the backup right tackle over James Livingston. There is no indication about if an injury is at play here or if the staff has just decided that the line is better with Ford moving over to right tackle and Gorczyca coming in at right guard if Cabeldue is ever out.

But Leipold did talk about the important of all the depth on the roster, specifically calling out the contributions of Lorenzo McCaskill and Eriq Gilyard in the linebacker second line. Expect Kansas to continue to utilize their backups in ways to take pressure off the starters and extend the period of time that the defense can be effective in a game.

Earlier this week we received a small update on starting quarterback Jalon Daniels, learning that he is continuing to progress is practice but that his status for Saturday is uncertain at this point. The ability to hold that decision is helped by the performance by Bean and Neal on Saturday.
