Jalon Daniels confirms intent to return next season
The rumblings have been there for weeks. Anonymous insiders and sources have talked about the possibility that Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels was sitting out with the intent to transfer this offseason. It has affected almost every conversation about the Kansas quarterback room situation, and led the fanbase to argue back and forth on Twitter.
But the Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year put out a message on Thursday that clearly stated his intentions for next season:
The post unequivocally states that Daniels intends to be back in Lawrence next year. It should go a long way to put the average fan at ease, especially with the caption on the post of "Unfinished business." That sentiment is echoed in a video released by the quarterback, which he concludes with "I'm not done yet. And I'm not going anywhere. Rock Chalk."
his is obviously huge news for Kansas moving forward, but it doesn't address anything for the rest of this season. However, my read of the wording used in his statements indicate that he is still struggling through the injury and there are no current expectations that he will be ready to go this week or next. It's possible that he returns for a bowl game appearance, but I'm inclined to believe that Jason Bean will be rewarded for his contributions this year in his final appearance.
Coming into the week, there is still questions about if Bean will be ready to go this week. With Daniels expected to be out, Bean is still working his way back from a head injury in the loss to Texas Tech. Reports are that he is taking reps in practice, which is a good sign, although not a guarantee. If he can't go, true freshman walk-on Cole Ballard is slated to get the start.
