"Jayhawk Perfection" - A Gameday Message on Belief: 0 days to Kansas Football
The countdown that we started 100 days ago is finally coming to an end. The Kansas Jayhawks take the field tonight to kick off what should be another big step forward for the program under Lance Leipold. And with that has come a big belief in what the next step is for this team.
The investment in the program has been undeniable. The administration with the unveiling of the stadium renovations. The coaching staff turning down other opportunities to stay with this build. The players giving their all to improve results on and off the field. And finally, the fans who have shown their support in every way possible in the last couple seasons.
Tickets sales are up. Fan chatter on Twitter is up. Expectations are up. And most of all, the faith and belief in this program is up as well. This season is a big chance for those efforts to take another leap forward, striving for what inspired today's final entry to the 2023 countdown
"Jayhawk Perfection"
Every year that this countdown has been done, we try to find a song or poem that we can end with, changing the lyrics to reflect the current state of the program. This year is all about reaching for that next step. While the team may never actually get to a perfect record, the belief that it is at least possible is as strong as I've seen in a very long time in Lawrence.
And so without further ado, and with full apology to Kermit the Frog and/or whoever was involved in writing this song, I give you this year's finale, entitled "Jayhawk Perfection". If you are musically inclined, you can imagine the words to the tune of "Rainbow Connection".
Why are there so many
Jayhawk Football Doubters
Who just cannot trust the rise?
Wins start to come
But they're only lucky
And good defense only hides.
We've been told they can't and some still believe it
I know they're wrong wait and see
Someday we'll find it, that Jayhawk perfection
The die-hards, big dreamers and me
Who said that rebuilds
are slow and steady
if they're ever meant to last?
Somebody claimed that
Most seem to believe it
But look what They've done so far
Plays so amazing that keep entertaining
It keeps coming close, can't you see?
Someday we'll find it, that Jayhawk perfection
The die-hards, big dreamers and me
All of us waving the wheat
We know that the program keeps building
Have you been daydreaming
Of former Jayhawk glory?
I remember all those days
Are these the sweet cheers
That call the young players?
The end might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it:
It's something Kansas is supposed to be
Someday we'll find it, that Jayhawk perfection
And all we must do is believe
Rock Chalk everybody, and let's hope for a season that let's us keep dreaming.
