This season, we’ll be previewing and predicting the uniform choices for Kansas football three times, evenly dividing out the schedule and picking apart what KU might wear, what they should wear, and what would make the “best looking game” from an aesthetic standpoint. Today, we go through the first four games of the 2023 Kansas football schedule. Plus, don't forget to look at our way-too-early predictions for how the Jayhawks will perform in this stretch.

Game One: September 2 v. Missouri State

It’s the first game of the season and Kansas will be wearing a lot of blue. Last season the Jayhawks came out in mono-blue, the season before that, they went traditional with white pants. What will Lance Leipold’s crew do this season? I’m ok with either of those choices and I think we'll see one of those combos on September 2.

What they should wear: Blue helmet, blue jersey, white pants

What they will wear: All blue

The Missouri State Bears will most likely offer a traditional look to face KU. Their helmets have been silver over the past few seasons, and they’ll either wear all white or throw in some maroon pants. This game should look pretty good from a purely aesthetic standpoint.

Game Two: September 9 v Illinois

This is the first big game of the year and Kansas needs to look like Kansas for the national spotlight. To me, this means keep it blue. No matter what, wear the blue jersey. Mix it up however you’d like after that, but make sure the majority of the uniform set is bright Kansas blue.

What they should wear: All blue

What they will wear: They’ll get creative and go with a red helmet, blue jersey, and white pants. Don’t count out the white helmet with all blue below the neck though.

Illinois can go with a few combos on the road with orange, navy, or white pants to go with their orange lid and white jersey. Any combo would look good against a sea of blue, but I’d like to see the orange because it gives the most contrast.

Game Three: September 16 at Nevada

KU’s first road test is at Nevada and the Jayhawks typically break out some red for a game like this. They did it at Duke two years ago, they did it at West Virginia last season, and I think they’ll do it against Nevada. I want a more traditional look, but maybe this is becoming a new tradition for KU.

What they should wear: Go traditional with a blue helmet, white jersey, blue pants. Maybe they’ll do two thirds of this and add in red pants. I’d be fine with that.

What they will wear: White helmet, white jersey, red pants

There’s one thing we know about the Wolfpack and that is that they will be wearing a navy blue jersey. Whether they combine that with all navy everything, or a silver or white helmet, or white pants, or something else altogether remains to be seen. Kansas wearing some red will certainly clash and make this game more pleasing to the eye, so even though I always want Kansas wearing as much blue as possible, red is good for this one.

Game Four: September 23 v BYU

The fourth game of the year features another team that wears blue, albeit sometimes navy blue and sometimes royal, so maybe KU will wear some red in this one too. They might just repeat the uniforms they wore at home against Duke last year (White/Red/Red) as Duke and BYU have a very similar uniform set. I’m not a fan of the red, but if you do it at home, you do it for this game. I’m coming around on this as being a solid Kansas uniform.

What they should wear: White helmet, red jersey, red pants.

What they will wear: White helmet, red jersey, red pants

BYU typically wears all white on the road, but they sometimes mix it up and wear blue pants. My guess is that the Cougars will wear as much white as possible in this one.

We’ll have the next set of four games in a few weeks with the final games to follow. Stay tuned.
