Kansas Jayhawk Fan Viewing Guide - Week 8
The Kansas Jayhawks are in action on Saturday against the Baylor Bears, and it is shaping up to be a competitive game, no matter what the betting line is trying to tell you. But it's a perfect weekend for football, specifically to sit on the couch and flip through multiple games trying to catch as much action as possible.
With that in mind, we have a primer for the Kansas Football fan. A full slate of action that you can turn on that will whet that football appetite but also be relevant to your rooting interests. We'll pick a main game for the big TV, and then a second one for flipping during commercials or to stick on that laptop/tablet/second TV that we all know is sitting right there. While I'm assuming you will be watching (or attending) the Kansas game, there are still some interesting games to make sure you at least follow on your phone.

Thursday
There are two options here, and neither are super enticing. The Virginia Cavaliers face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a game that likely will be disappointing. Either Georgia Tech is going to win big or Virginia is going to muck it up and make it uninteresting. And in the other game, the Troy Trojans travel to take on the South Alabama Jaguars in a game that should be competitive. But neither game screams "You HAVE to watch me!", and the implications of these games aren't important at all for Kansas.
Friday
Similarly, there isn't much here that you have to see. The only two games see the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes take on the Temple Owls in a game that shouldn't be close. And the UAB Blazers take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a battle of two good teams. If you really want to watch college football on Friday, then tune in to CBS Sports Network at 7pm.
Early Saturday
Kansas at Baylor is on ESPN2 at 11am, so that will be on your main screen. But you need something for the other screens in your house, so give these a chance.
#14 Syracuse Orange vs #5 Clemson Tigers
Location: Memorial Stadium, Clemson, SC
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 11am
TV Channel: ABC
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: CLEM -13.5
O/U: 58.5
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
If you want good football that will likely have some big highlights, then you want to watch this one. Clemson is quickly running out of opponents that can seriously challenge them, and the Orange are looking to remain undefeated on the season. There aren't any big implications for the Jayhawks, but sometimes you just want to watch good football.
#21 Cincinnati Bearcats vs SMU Mustangs
Location: Gerald J Ford Stadium, Dallas, TX
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 11am
TV Channel: ESPN
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: CIN -3.5
O/U: None
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
It's a good chance to see how the Bearcats have been able to replace all the production they last year as they gear up to join the Big 12 next year. There aren't a ton of other great games, so this one makes the cut with a competent SMU team trying to stay in the conference race.
Honorable Mention: Duke Blue Devils at Miami Hurricanes
Saturday Afternoon
There are way too many games in this window, so let's get three of them here.
#20 Texas Longhorns vs #11 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Location: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 2:30pm
TV Channel: ABC
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: UT -6.0
O/U: 60.5
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
Winner of this game pulls into second place in the conference, gaining a valuable tiebreaker for the Big 12 title game in the process. Texas struggled with the Cyclones last week and their defense will need to step up in order to get out of Stillwater with a win. Oklahoma State is trying to bounce back after their first loss of the season. This will either be a statement blowout for one of these teams, or a very good win over another quality team.
#9 UCLA Bruins vs #10 Oregon Ducks
Location: Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 2:30pm
TV Channel: FOX
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: ORE -6.5
O/U: 70.5
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
The Ducks were expected to be here, but the Bruins have been playing way above the level that everyone expected. Both of these teams are undefeated in a suddenly fiesty Pac 12 conference that needs so big showcases to get some respect in the College Football Playoff process.
But regardless of the implications, these are two teams that can really score, so expect some fast-paced action to get you
West Virginia Mountaineers vs Texas Tech Red Raiders
Location: Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 2:00pm
TV Channel: FS1
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: TTU -6.0
O/U: 64.5
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
Kansas will be looking to stay ahead of both of these teams in the conference race, and with Texas Tech coming off the bye, it will be a good opportunity to see which quarterback will be playing and how healthy the rest of the team is. And those that are looking for maximum chaos in the conference will be rooting for a West Virginia team that has talent but hasn't played well. If they can build on the win over Baylor, then the second half of the year will be that much more interesting.
Honorable Mention: Memphis Tigers at #25 Tulane Green Wave & #7 Ole Miss Rebels at LSU Tigers
Saturday Evening
#17 Kansas State Wildcats vs #8 TCU Horned Frogs
Location: Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, TX
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 7pm
TV Channel: FS1
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: TCU -3.5
O/U: 54.0
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
The marquee Big 12 game of the day that has unfortunately been shoved over to a lesser network because of playoff baseball. TCU likes to play fast, while Kansas State is much more deliberate with what they do. It will be fascinating to see which style wins out. It will likely be the most competitive game of the night.
#24 Mississippi State Bulldogs vs #6 Alabama Crimson Tide
Location: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 6:00pm
TV Channel: ESPN
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: ALA -21.0
O/U: 61.0
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
Can the Bulldogs add to the pain for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide? Vegas is betting big that Alabama bounces back in a big way, and I could see this game going either way.
Honorable Mention: Minnesota Golden Gophers at #16 Penn State Nittany Lions
Saturday Late Night
Washington Huskies at California Golden Bears
Location: California Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, CA
Game Time: Saturday, Oct 22nd at 9:30pm
TV Channel: ESPN
Live Stream: fuboTV (Start your free trial)
Line: WASH -7.5
O/U: 55.0
Why Jayhawk fans should watch:
It's always good to have late night football, and this is the best option that we have. Washington has been a bit disappointing this year, but not horrible. But Cal lost to the awful Colorado Buffaloes last week, and so it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back at home.
