Kansas Jayhawks jump into AP Top 25 Poll
It took a week longer than I expected, but the Kansas Jayhawks finally crashed into both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Top 25 after defeating the BYU Cougars with an explosive defensive performance.
First up was the coaches poll, which voted Kansas at No. 24 this week, then the AP media poll followed with another No. 24 ranking.
Another dominant performance at home, coupled with multiple top-25 teams losing on Saturday, made Kansas an easy decision. The 4-0 Jayhawks are behind Missouri at 23 and in front of Fresno State at 25, all of which were not ranked last week.
KU is one of three Big 12 teams ranked this week. Texas – who the Jayhawks will face this Saturday in Austin – remains at No. 3 while Oklahoma jumped two spots to No. 14. K-State was the top team receiving votes, while TCU also received 17 votes.
The biggest movement this week came from the Oregon State-Washington State matchup. Washington State jumped up five spots to No. 16 while Oregon State fell to No. 19. Ole Miss also lost five spots after falling to Alabama.
It's another strong week for matchups against ranked teams in week five. Along with KU-Texas, other ranked games are Utah-Oregon State, LSU-Ole Miss, and Notre Dame-Duke. Colorado is no longer ranked as it takes on USC this week.
