UPDATED: Kansas Jayhawks NOT receiving votes in Preseason AP Top 25
UPDATE: It looks like some sort of error resulted in the official release of the Preseason AP Top 25 Poll including the Kansas Jayhawks with votes. From the ESPN Ranking page:
And as former Kansas City Star's Scott Chasen points out, it appears that the organization misapplied a selection for the Kansas State Wildcats to the Jayhawks instead.
It might be a bit of a blow to the ego of many Kansas fans, but if things start out this season like many hope they can (i.e. a 4-0 start), then it won't be long until they are on this list for real.
We'll update with more information once the issue is resolved.

Chalk up another preseason accomplishment for Lance Leipold's Kansas Jayhawks squad, as they appeared in the Preseason AP Top 25 for the first time since coming in at #25 to start the 2009-10 season. While they aren't in the official Top 25, they did receive 10 points, good enough for 34th. It adds just one more thing that Kansas fans can point to as recognition of the way the program has changed.
The Big 12 did not have a single team in the Top 10 of the poll, as the Texas Longhorns came in at #11 behind a group of three SEC teams, three Big 10 teams, two ACC teams and two Pac 12 teams. The Kansas State Wildcats are next for the conference, coming in at #16, followed immediately by the TCU Horned Frogs at #17. The Oklahoma rounds out the Big 12 contingent at #20.
Overall, the SEC leads with six teams in the poll (#1 Georgia, #4 Alabama, #5 LSU, #12 Tennessee, #22 Ole Miss and #23 Texas A&M). The Big Ten (#2 Michigan, #3 Ohio State, #7 Penn State, #19 Wisconsin and #25 Iowa) and Pac 12 (#6 USC, #10 Washington, #14 Utah, #15 Oregon and #18 Oregon State) each have five. The Big 12 is next with their four, followed by the ACC with three (#8 Florida State, #9 Clemson and #21 North Carolina).
Big 12 teams appearing in the Receiving Votes category are #26 Texas Tech (101 points), #34 Kansas (10 points) and #43 Baylor (3 points).
The season kicks off in just under three weeks, when the Jayhawks will have an early opportunity against another team receiving votes in the poll, the Illinois Fighting Illini. With today's poll release, it's fair to say that the expectations for this team is not limited to Kansas fans.
