Single change in depth chart shouldn't worry Kansas Football fans

Despite a change that has the potential to alter the course of the season, Kansas fans shouldn't be too concerned about it. Yet.

The Kansas Jayhawks began the 2023 season with a huge win last week, and a result like that usually means that there aren't many changes in the depth chart. This week is no exception, as there is only a single change anywhere on the two-deep. But there is a huge surprise with that one change.

But when you look at the 2-deep as released by Kansas Athletics earlier this week, the biggest surprise is that the defense has more positions that are the same as last as season than the offense. It is still subject to change based on practices and during the week gameplanning.

Takeaways

The depth chart for this week is nearly identical to the one for last week, with the only difference being the "OR" at the quarterback position. Given how the news about Jalon Daniels' status came out last week, it's fair for fans to assume that Daniels isn't quite as close to back as the coaches seem to be indicating.

But we all know that this is the time of year where gamesmanship is rampant across the college football world. Forcing your opponent to prepare for two different quarterbacks can be the difference between surprising them for a few big plays and having to rely on physical disparities.

For anyone still worried about the quarterback position, Jason Bean showed just how capable he is to lead this team for as long as they need him to. So instead of worrying about player availability, let's just prepare to black-out the Booth on Friday.
