In this story:

The Kansas Jayhawks come back home today for the home finale and a Senior Day celebration that is going to be bittersweet for this team. And the opponent for this game is one where some special wins have come in the last few years: the Texas Longhorns.

There is an open question about who will start at quarterback for the Jayhawks, with Jason Bean reportedly limited in practice and Jalon Daniels on the cusp of returning. Which quarterback gives Kansas the best chance here? Can Kansas pull off the upset for the second year in a row?

I wish I was more optimistic about this game than I am for KU. On the positive side, I do think the Jayhawks will be able to score a decent amount and I think there will be a bump for everyone if Jalon Daniels is able to go at quarterback (and I do feel like he’ll get the call, although that’s just a hunch). The Texas run game worries me, though, because it’s not especially exciting to picture Bijan Robinson matching up against a defense that has been spotty at best for much of the season. The deciding matchup of this game, in my opinion, is the KU defense versus Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. If the freshman Texas pivot is as erratic as he’s been in the last two Longhorns losses and the Jayhawks can force a couple turnovers, that may be enough to swing the game in KU’s favor. I’m hopeful but somewhat pessimistic.

Ever since KU beat Texas on a last second field goal a few years back, I’ve predicted the Jayhawks to beat them. Last year, I predicted KU to win two games, one against Texas. So, do you think I’m picking against the crimson and blue this time? Nope. I’m going KU in a runaway on senior day.

Kansas 50, Texas 30.

The Kansas Jayhawks will be playing their final home game of the 2022 season against the Texas Longhorns. Not only is it the final home game but it is also senior day and there are some very important seniors leaving this squad. With that being said the Jayhawks are going to be highly motivated to play a very well-rounded Longhorns football team. If we recall the start of the turnaround for the Jayhawk football program occurred in Texas last year versus the Longhorns. Kansas is going to have a tough challenge containing one of the best running backs in the country Bijan Robinson along with a very talented freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers. On the opposite side rumors are Jalon Daniels has been cleared and could be potentially at the quarterback position on Saturday. No matter the quarterback the Jayhawks will have to throw the football against one of the best Big 12 run defenses in the Texas Longhorns. I have faith which is why I believe.

I've been torn on this game for quite a while. Texas has looked better this season than I thought they would, but they continue to be singularly focused on offense. Ewers has not broken out in the way that a lot of Texas fans seemed to expect, and I think the Jayhawks are well-positioned to take advantage of his inexperience. But the biggest question is if Kansas can stop Bijan Robinson and the Texas running game.

We've seen multiple times where this defense has given up big plays early, only to make critical adjustments that slow down the opponent. It takes a team that can counter those adjustments to remain successful, and Texas is not a team that has done that very well this year. Ultimately, I have to remain optimistic and I think Kansas pulls this one out late.
