Earlier this week, former Kansas safety Bryce Torneden was selected by the Pittsburgh Maulers in the 2022 United States Football League (USFL) draft. He was taken in the 19th round with the fourth pick.

For those that are unfamiliar with the USFL, it is a new 8-team professional football league that is scheduled to start its first season on April 16, 2022. The first season will be played in its entirety in Birmingham, AL, with the playoffs taking place in Canton, OH.

Most Kansas fans will remember Bryce Torneden for his time with the Jayhawks. His last year in Lawrence was the 2019 season. In four years at Kansas, he appeared in 46 games. He ended his career with 233 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, one interception, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries.

Torneden was not drafted in the 2020 NFL draft, but did continue playing football in The Spring League for the Sea Lions. The Spring League is another 8-team development league that allows players to showcase their talents in front of scouts.
