Is the Jayhawks defense better than their metrics? - Rock Chalk Podcast
The Kansas Jayhawks are 4-0, Let that sink in for a minute. The Kansas Jayhawks came home to a sold-out crowd and beat a previously undefeated Duke Blue Devils team without playing their best game. To help celebrate that, Kyle joined me for a recap of this game.
We started by looking at the Jayhawks not being ranked before jumping in to figure out who the player of the game was (other than Jalon Daniels). Then we talk about everything this team does, while also looking at a couple troubling trends. And of course, we take an early look ahead at the Iowa State Cyclones.
The episode begins by reacting to the news that the Jayhawks are not included in the Top 25 Polls and trying to figure out reasons why. Then we look around the roster to figure out who the star of the game was that is NOT named Jalon Daniels. This of course turns into a conversation about exactly what Jalon Daniels is doing.
But there are a few things about this team that have us worried, including some puzzling late game strategy that has resurfaced multiple times.
After the break, we took a look at what the defensive performance actually looked like, and why the advanced stats may not actually match up with the way they are playing. We took some time to highlight some other players who stood out against Duke before taking a brief look at this week's opponent.
And then we ended the same way we began, by looking at the rankings. But instead of just complaining about not being ranked, we instead discussed whether they will be able to use that as motivation going forward.
It's a lot to unpack, but it's definitely worth a listen.
