Podcast: Kansas Delivers A Final Four Shellacking
This is it: the end of the college basketball season. The Kansas Jayhawks were phenomenal in their Final Four matchup against the Villanova Wildcats, advancing to face the North Carolina Tar Heels in the final game of the season.
In today's episode of the Rock Chalk Podcast, I was joined by Brendan Dzwierzynski to end this year's tradition of previewing each game in the NCAA Tournament. We took the opportunity to show our appreciation for each of the players who helped push Kansas to the title game. Then we previewed the title game against North Carolina, first by talking about what we saw from them against Duke, and then by looking at how Kansas matches up and why they are rightly heavy favorites in tonight's game. We wrapped up with some predictions before giving some more last-minute advice for fans before tonight's game.
We started off today's episode by talking about the extremely impressive performance of David McCormack. Included in the discussion was how much he made his presence known, and how the officiating changed how you should think about his performance.
Next, we moved on to Ochai Agbaji's lights-out performance from beyond the arc. We included a discussion about why we keep breezing right past his performances, and how much we can expect this momentum to carry over to tonight's game.
We couldn't get much further without highlighting the big performances by Jalen Wilson and Christian Braun. Wilson was all over the court doing anything and everything the Jayhawks needed, so much that he earned himself a new title. And Braun's double daggers to help close out the game redeemed an otherwise lackluster performance.
From there, we rounded up the rest of the performances. Dajuan Harris was successful in looking for his shot and slowing Collin Gillespie. Remy Martin provided energy and good defense off the bench. Mitch Lightfoot spelled McCormack for some important minutes.
After the break, we shifted our focus to the title game tonight. We started by talking about our overall thoughts on North Carolina advancing over Duke. Then I countered some narratives surrounding momentum coming into the game before we talked about why we are confident in the Jayhawks going into this game.
And of course, given that this is the final game of the season, regardless of the outcome, we finish up by reminding fans to enjoy watching this team for the last time.
