It looked for a while like Kentucy's offense wasn't going to show up, but in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Wildcats were able to explode and take a commanding lead. A double from Ryan Nicholson cleared the loaded bases for Kentucky, blowing the game wide open and making the score 9-5.
Kentucky was able to get three outs in the top of the ninth to win this game.
While it was great to see a big eighth-inning comeback from the Cats, there are still negative takeaways from the win. The first thing is the Wildcats had four errors, and a lot of these led to runs for Morehead State. Kentucky prides itself on playing great defense, but in this game, it was a bit sloppy.
This stuff happens early in the year, but the Wildcats play the field with great form and will cut down on the errors as they get more into the flow of the season.
Kentucky didn't have its best showing, but they found a way to win, and that is what matters. Winning ugly baseball games will make a coach happy in SEC play, so getting some practice early in the year isn't a bad thing.
