Kentucky Adds West Virginia OL Transfer Dylan Ray
Depth has become one of the many concerns surrounding Kentucky football's offensive line in 2023, but the Wildcats are doing what they can to solve that issue.
On Saturday, a new piece was added to the OL room, as walk-on Dylan Ray announced that he is transferring to Kentucky from West Virginia:
"First off I want to thank West Virginia University, Coach Joseph and Coach Moore for everything they have done for me throughout the past 2 years. With that being said I am happy to announce my commitment to University of Kentucky," Ray wrote in his announcement.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder out of Noblesville, Ind. spent two seasons in Morgantown. He redshirted in 2021, then saw just 32 total snaps on offense a season ago. He was a multi-year starter at Noblesville High School and was named the team's offensive line MVP as a senior. His father, John, played offensive line at WVU from 1988-91 and went on to play professionally.
Ray won't be a player on the depth chart for the Wildcats and is expected to be a walk-on, but he is another big body that OL coach Zach Yenser can work with. Four different o-linemen — John Young, Kiyaunta Goodwin, David Wohlabaugh and Deondre Buford — have all transferred out following the 2022 season and 2023 spring, leaving the room a tad thin.
UK has already hit the portal hard, bringing in three OL to try and remedy the woes that were a catalyst toward a disappointing 2022 season. Marques Cox (Northern Illinois) will likely start at right tackle, Courtland Ford (USC) will compete for the starting right tackle job, while Tanner Bowles (Alabama) will likely serve as guard depth this fall.
Kentucky has had 18 departures via the portal since it originally opened following the end of the 2022 season, but has now brought in 11 new bodies, including Ray and NIU linebacker Daveren Rayner, who also announced his UK commitment on Saturday.
