Kentucky football's chances of landing Rhode Island defensive back transfer Antonio Carter took a big hit earlier this week, when it was reported that he was no longer visiting Lexington.

Those thoughts were solidified on Saturday, when the Orlando, Fla. native announced his commitment to Notre Dame:

Carter chose the Fighting Irish over Florida, LSU and others. He quickly became coveted for big Power 5 programs upon entering the portal in the beginning of the April window, which was open from April 15-30.

Coming out of Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, Carter started all 11 games for the Rams as a redshirt sophomore in the 2022 season. He finished fourth on the team with 60 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 11 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and recoveries, an interception and a sack. In 21 career games, Carter has 105 tackles and 17 pass deflections.

His visit to UK was initially supposed to occur around this time in May, but it was canceled in favor of attending Florida and LSU, both of whom offered after the Wildcats. He later took a visit to South Bend, which eventually won him over.

The DB with two years of eligibility would've been a welcomed addition to the UK secondary. Kentucky has had 18 departures via the portal since it originally opened following the end of the 2022 season, but has now brought in 11 new bodies, including Northern Illinois linebacker Daveren Rayner, who announced his UK commitment on Saturday.
