Tyrell Ajian Reportedly Invited to Pittsburgh Steelers Minicamp
Former Kentucky defensive back Tyrell Ajian was one of the few Wildcats who participated at UK's NFL Pro Day.
After getting a chance to showcase his talent to NFL coaches, scouts and the like, the 6-foot, 193-pounder still went undrafted and wasn't immediately picked up afterward. Thankfully for the Mansfield, Ohio native, though, he's still getting a shot.
On Monday, MLFootball reported via Ajian's agent Christopher Overton of Believe Sports Group that the DB has received an invite to the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie minicamp:
Ajian had a six-year career at Kentucky and became a core piece of the UK secondary at the end of his time as a Wildcat. He is a five-year letterwinner and three-year starter who played in 61 career games with 35 starting assignments. Across those six seasons, he totaled 152 tackles, 12 pass breakups, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, 1.5 TFL and one sack in his career.
The safety used his COVID year of eligibility in 2022 to play as a super senior and recorded 31 tackles, 1.5 TFL, a sack, three pass breakups and a team-high tying two forced fumbles. He made 12 starts that season, 11 in 2021 and 10 in 2020 — a year that saw 8 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, a PBU and a blocked kick.
Ajian was a 4-star prospect in the 2017 class, coming out of Madison Comprehensive. ESPN rated him as the No. 8 safety in the country. He now joins linebackers Jacquez Jones, Jordan Wright and punter Colin Goodfellow as former Cats to receive minicamp invites.
Quarterback Will Levis, running back Chris Rodriguez and cornerback Carrington Valentine were all selected in the NFL draft, while offensive lineman Tashawn Manning, linebacker DeAndre Square and cornerback Keidron Smith all inked undrafted free agent deals.
