DJ Wagner named SEC Freshman of the Week

Following his standout performance in Kentucky's win over North Carolina, freshman guard DJ Wagner has been named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Wagner played 35 minutes against the Tar Heels, the most of any Wildcat.

Wagner scored 14 points which made him Kentucky's second-highest scorer. Rob Dillingham, also a freshman guard, led Kentucky in scoring with 17 points.

Wagner also posted six rebounds, five assists and one steal. He shot 6-14 from the floor and 2-4 from 3-point range.

Wagner was Kentucky's third-highest-rated prospect in its 2023 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-3 native of Camden, New Jersey was a 5-star recruit with a 0.9983 composition rating. He was the No. 6 player nationally, the No. 1 combo guard and the No. 2 player in the state of New Jersey.
