Kentucky basketball is still sixth in the AP Poll after the road win over Florida

The Cats stayed sixth in the AP Poll after beating Florida in Gainesville.

Kentucky basketball had one game this week, taking on the Florida Gators in Gainesville to start SEC play, and got a big win.

While the Cats were able to sweat out a win over the Gators 87-85 to move to 1-0 in conference play, they stayed in the same spot in the AP Poll at sixth. The teams ahead of the Cats are Purdue (1), Houston (2), Kansas (3), UConn (4), and Tennessee (5).

When you make your way up the AP Poll in the top ten like the Cats are currently, it's hard to move up because it would take a loss from one of the teams above them.

This means if you want to keep moving up the AP Poll, there is only one thing you can do, and that is keep winning basketball games.

Kentucky won't play a ranked team until they open up the month of February hosting the Tennessee Volunteers.

Knowing that the Vols are ahead of the Cats, if Kentucky can beat them in this game, they will leapfrog Tennessee, but that game is still a ways away.

If Kentucky can go undefeated in the month of January, it's hard to see a world where one of the teams ahead of the Cats don't drop a game, letting Kentucky move up.
