Kentucky needs a seven-footer to step up in the postseason
Kentucky has three seven-footers, and it seems like every time the Wildcats take the floor, one plays well, and the others struggle.
It changes all the time which player it is, and we have very rarely seen all three of the seven-footers have a good game simultaneously.
Usually, when Ugonna Onyenso struggles, Zvonimir Ivisic steps up. There have been a few games of late where freshman seven-footer Aaron Bradshaw has done some good things including 15 points in the win over Arkansas.
For the Wildcats to make a run in the SEC and NCAA Tournament, one of these three needs to separate themselves from the pack, and more than likely, it will be Onyenso or Ivisic.
In the massive road win over Tennessee, Onyenso was incredible defensively, with four blocks, but he didn't score or even attempt a field goal. Ironically, all three of the seven-footers combined were 0-1 from the field for zero points.
The presence Onyenso gave the Wildcats in the paint in the win over Tennessee was massive as he made it hard for the Volunteers to score around the rim and held Jonas Aidoo to 11 points on 4-11 shooting.
Ivisic had a big late-game block on Dalton Knecht that helped Kentucky secure the win in Knoxville, so the bigs were impactful on defense.
You would love for the seven-footers to combine for at least ten points a game, but when Antonio Reeves and Reed Sheppard are both giving you 27 points, you would rather the shots come off their hands than the big guys.
It would be great for Onyenso, Ivisic, and Bradshaw to all play well in the postseason, but if one of them could be a dominant force defensively while adding a little bit of scoring, it increases the Wildcat's chances of making a run.
