Podcast hosts not worried about Kentucky's loss to Texas A&M

Kentucky was one of 14 Top 25 teams to lose last week, and the hosts at Locked On College Basketball aren't concerned for the Wildcats going forward.

The Kentucky Wildcats took their third loss of the season on Saturday, and first in SEC play, when they fell in overtime to the Texas A&M Aggies, 97-92.

They became one of 14 AP top 25 teams who lost to an unranked opponent last week, which included nine of the top 11. Of those only UConn and North Carolina managed to avoid picking up losses, while Houston and Oklahoma each lost twice.

Locked On College Basketball hosts Isaac Schade and Andy Patton broke down the madness from last week on their latest episode, and discussed Kentucky's loss to A&M in particular and what it means for coach John Calipari's team this season.

"I'm not overly concerned about this loss for them long term," Patton said. "The Wilmington loss is certainly the more problematic thing on their resume...overall a loss to A&M on the road is not something that concerns me too much."

Patton does go on to say the loss is more of an issue in the SEC standings, where Tennessee and Auburn were able to gain ground with victories on Saturday.

"It does matter a bit for the SEC standings," Patton continued. "Tennessee nearly lost to Georgia [but] they managed to secure a victory. Meanwhile Auburn, who is now a very strong contender in the SEC, they absolutely blew out LSU...for Kentucky I'm a little bit more concerned about their ability to stay at the top of the SEC."

Kentucky is 12-3 on the year and 2-1 in the SEC, putting them in a six-way tie for second place behind Auburn and Alabama. Ultimately things will start to separate very soon in the standings, and as long as the Wildcats can continue taking care of business they should find themselves at or near the top of the league when the conference tournament rolls around.

They'll get a chance to reset the winning streak on Wednesday at Rupp Arena against the Bulldogs of Mississippi State, with tip-off slated for 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2.
