Kentucky Briefing: Is Reed Shepard the best shooter in all of college basketball?
We are four games into the Kentucky basketball season, which is a big enough sample size to start understanding how this team flows and what everyone's role will be.
Heading into the season, all of Big Blue Nation knew that freshman guard Reed Sheppard could shoot the ball well, but not one person could have anticipated the way he would start his college career beyond the arc.
Through four games, Sheppard is 12-17 from beyond the arc, giving him a percentage of 70.59.
This percentage is good for the best in all of college basketball, with the next closest player being Jameel Brown of Penn State, who is 11-16 from deep, which makes his percentage 68.75.
I know it's only four games, and there is no way Sheppard will sustain shooting over 70% from three, but if he stays hot, the freshman truly is one of the best shooters in all of college hoops.
It will be hard to keep Sheppard on the bench for much longer if he keeps shooting the ball this well for John Calipari's squad.
We wrote it
I wrote about how Coach Cal shouldn't mess with the starting lineup despite early struggles from DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards.
"It wouldn't be hard to make an argument that Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard have been Kentucky's two best players so far this season."
"They have done it all, including score, play hard defense, rebound, and dish assists to their teammates."
