SEC wrap-around: Kentucky not the only top ranked SEC team to stumble on Saturday

Kentucky was joined by Auburn and Tennessee in taking losses on Saturday in a wild day of upsets in the SEC.
In this story:

John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats did not partake in SEC Saturday, instead taking on Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a marquee non-conference matchup that did not go their way as the Zags secured an 89-85 victory.

The loss is the third home loss in a row for the Wildcats and puts them in an uneasy spot getting back into conference play, although they were not the only highly regarded SEC squad to take a loss over the weekend.

Below is a look at every SEC game from Saturday and what the result means for the conference standings and the Wildcats as we draw closer to March:

Alabama 109, LSU 92

The Crimson Tide moved to 9-2 in SEC play with a big win over LSU on Saturday. Alabama drilled a whopping 18 three pointers, including a 6-9 day from deep by Latrell Wrightsell. Defense remains an issue for 'Bama, but they were able to secure an easy victory despite giving up 92 points on the other end.

Meanwhile, the Tigers drop to 4-6 in conference play and have won just one of their last six games.

South Carolina 75, Vanderbilt 60

Collin Murray-Boyles had 31 points on a prolific 14-17 shooting to lead the Gamecocks to a win over Vanderbilt, keeping them tied with Alabama at 9-2 in the SEC.

The Commodores are now 1-9 in the SEC, with the only win coming against Missouri last week.

Florida 81, Auburn 65

Auburn got worked by Todd Golden's Florida squad in the first half, getting outscored 42-26 and eventually losing by 17 despite a far more competitive second half. It was a hangover game for Bruce Pearl's team, coming off an emotional win over Alabama earlier in the week.

Auburn shot just 3-17 from three (17.6%) and more concerningly just 14-26 (53.8%) from the free throw line, with the loss dropping them to 8-3 in the SEC.

Meanwhile, Florida's at-large hopes get a nice boost with a Quad 1 victory, and they are now 6-4 in conference play - tied with the Wildcats.

Arkansas 78, Georgia 75

The Hogs picked up a much needed win with clutch shooting down the stretch, including a trio of double-digit scorers coming off the bench in Jalen Graham, Makhi Mitchell, and Keyon Menifield. They are still just 3-7 in the SEC, but now have a 12-11 overall record in what has been a very rough season for Eric Musselman.

For Georgia the loss is the fifth in a row as they continue to fall further out of the picture in the SEC after a promising start.

Texas A&M 85, Tennessee 69

Wade Taylor IV dropped 25 points with five made threes and A&M blasted Tennessee, one of multiple upset wins in the SEC on Saturday.

The Vols, who are now 7-3 in conference play, shot just 37.1% from the field and 8-29 (27.6%) from three. Dalton Knecht was 6-11 from deep with 22 points, but the rest of Rick Barnes' team was a combined 2-18 in the loss.

Mississippi State 75, Missouri 51

Mizzou dropped to 0-11 in SEC play in a painful effort against the Bulldogs, never looking remotely competitive in a 24 point loss. The Tigers turned the ball over a whopping 20 times, while Mississippi State got a quality performance from Tolu Smith who had 13 and 11 on 6-8 shooting.

The Bulldogs move to 5-6 in conference play.
