SEC wraparound: Auburn takes sole possession of first place with blowout win over Ole Miss
The Kentucky Wildcats secured a big win over the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, while also getting freshman big man Zvonimir Ivisic into the mix for his first game.
Kentucky's win was part of a pretty chalk day in the SEC, with Tennessee and Auburn also picking up victories. Alabama took their first loss in conference play to the Vols, while Auburn remains undefeated and moves into sole possession of first place with a blowout win over Ole Miss.
Here is a peek at all the Saturday SEC action, starting with South Carolina over Arkansas:
South Carolina 77, Arkansas 64
The Hogs continue their disappointing season, falling to 1-4 in the SEC after losing to South Carolina, 77-64. The Gamecocks held Arkansas to just 27 points in the first half and themselves shot 9-18 (50%) from the three point line.
Arkansas got 18 from Tramon Mark but no one else was in double-figures as coach Eric Musselman searches for any kind of supporting cast to help this team turn it around.
Tennessee 91, Alabama 71
Alabama took their first loss in SEC play, turning the ball over a whopping 22 times and giving up 91 points to Tennessee. The Crimson Tide's defense has been a big issue all season long, and the Vols took major advantage thanks to 25 points from Dalton Knecht and 19 from Jonas Aidoo.
Tennessee and Alabama are both 4-1 in SEC play.
Mississippi State 68, Vanderbilt 55
It was a hideously ugly shooting night for both teams, but the Bulldogs of Mississippi State jumped out to a 36-21 halftime lead and held on to hand Vanderbilt their fifth straight loss. The Commodores are now 0-5 in SEC play and, after starting the season 3-1, have gone just 2-12 since.
Meanwhile the Bulldogs end a two game losing streak and move to 2-3 in SEC play and 13-5 overall.
Texas A&M 73, LSU 69
Wade Taylor IV had 19 points to lead the Aggies to a narrow victory over LSU. A&M had 21 offensive rebounds compared to just six for the Tigers, who are coming off a big win over Ole Miss earlier in the week.
A&M is now 2-3 in conference play, while LSU drops to 3-2.
Florida 79, Missouri 67
Despite a herculean effort from Tamar Bates, who had 36 on 13-21 shooting, the Missouri Tigers fell to 0-5 in SEC play with a loss to Florida. The Gators move to 2-3 after shooting 9-22 (40.9%) from three.
All five Florida starters were in double figures, led by Tyrese Samuel's 17 points and a 10 point, 13 rebound double-double from Micah Handlogten.
Auburn 82, Ole Miss 59
Auburn continued their dominant ways, staying undefeated in SEC play with a 23 point victory over Ole Miss. The Rebels take their second loss in a row, turning the ball over 17 times and shooting 4-17 from three.
Meanwhile the Tigers got 13 points from each Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome as they take over sole possession of first place in the conference with the win.
