Should Kentucky be concerned about Oakland in the NCAA Tournament?
The Kentucky Wildcats are getting ready to take on an Oakland Golden Grizzly team that won the Horizon League, but the metrics don't love them. Oakland is 126th in NET and 1-5 in Quad 1 games. They are 137th in the KenPom rankings, with an offensive efficiency of 134th and a defensive efficiency of 165th.
The Golden Grizzlies do have two really good players in Trey Townsend and Jack Gohlke. Townsend was the Horizon League Player of the Year and is coming off a game in the conference tournament championship game where he scored 38 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He is a 6'6 forward, so hopefully, Adou Thiero should be able to slow him down low.
Gohlke is a sharpshooter, averaging 9.6 three-point attempts per game, so the Wildcats need to be ready for him to launch some deep ones. Kentucky should take down Oakland, as the Grizzlies don't play great defense, and the Wildcats have a lot more talent.
