Takeaways: The Kentucky Wildcats take down Vanderbilt 93-77 thanks to a massive game from Rob Dillingham
Kentucky was able to get the season sweep of the Vanderbilt Commodores as the Wildcats beat them 93-77 in Rupp Arena.
Kentucky was able to get the win in their final game of the season in Rupp Arena which will likely be the last time many of these stars play in the historic venue.
This game was tight at the half, with Kentucky only leading by five points, but the Wildcats were able to stretch the lead in the second half to win this one by 16.
What can we take away from Kentucky's 93-77 win over Vanderbilt?
Rob Dillingham was incredible
In what was likely Rob Dillingham's final game in Rupp Arena, he had 23 points on 9-15 shooting. He was 3-4 from beyond the three-point line and had five assists. Every time Dillingham takes the floor, I am more convinced that he is going to be a star in the NBA. Coach Calipari keeps saying, "Enjoy this team," and while this is true, make sure you enjoy Dillingham because he will go down as a Kentucky legend, especially if this team makes a deep run in the Tournament.
Tre Mitchell's struggles continued
Tre Mitchell played 12 minutes in this game, scoring only two points. He was 1-4 from the field and had four personal fouls. Mitchell was consistent before getting banged up, and ever since getting back on the floor from his back/shoulder injury, he hasn't looked himself. He had the worst +/- on the team with a -12. Mitchell needs to get back healthy because this team could really use the player we saw early in the season in March. Mitchell said in postgame, "stick with me," and there is no question he will turn it around when it matters most.
Vandy had a lot of open looks
Kentucky held Vanderbilt to 77 points, but they had a ton of open looks. Some of those open looks fell, and others didn't. Vandy is a very bad basketball team, and every team you play going forward, it is going to sink those open looks, especially when you play the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. Nothing much you can do to change the defense now all the Wildcats can do it play as hard as possible. If they do this, we have seen this team can play good enough defense to make a run in the NCAA Tournament.
What's next?
The Kentucky Wildcats will head to Knoxville with a chance to be the #2 seed in the SEC Tournament on the line if the Cats win. This game will be played at 4:00 pm et on CBS.
