LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With the 2023-24 season just over three weeks away, various preseason polls, lists and rankings are starting to trickle out all across the collegiate basketball landscape.

One of which is the KenPom predictive ratings system, regarded as among the more trusted statistical models in the sport. On Sunday, the 2023-24 preseason KenPom ratings were released.

Unsurprisingly, like many other national polls and ACC power rankings, KemPom is not very high on Louisville entering the second year of the Kenny Payne era. The Cardinals debut as the No. 109 team in college basketball with an adjusted efficiency margin of +3.91.

Louisville's offensive and defensive preseason splits are relatively even. Their offensive efficiency of 101.3 comes in as the 118th-best in Division I, whereas their defensive efficiency of 97.4 sits at 119th.

The Cardinals currently projected to go 13-17 (not accounting for their final Empire Classic game, which has an undetermined opponent) over the course of the regular season, and 7-13 in conference play.

Louisville starts the season as the fourth-worst team in the ACC according to KenPom, ahead of only Georgia Tech, Boston College and Notre Dame. Duke claims the top preseason spot in the ACC; while Purdue, Kansas, Houston, UConn and Gonzaga round out the top five nationally.

Louisville will be looking for a massive rebound in their second year under head coach Kenny Payne. During his first season at the helm, the Cardinals went just 4-28 overall and 2-18 in ACC play, setting a new program record for most losses in a single season.

The Cardinals have just four scholarship returners from last season in Mike James, J.J. Traynor, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Emmanuel Okorafor. Louisville and Payne added 2023 prospects Dennis Evans, Kaleb Glenn, Curtis Williams Jr. and Ty-Laur Johnson; D1 transfers Skyy Clark, Tre White and Danilo Jovanovich; and JUCO transfer Koron Davis to the fold to replace the departing talent.

Louisville will tip-off the regular season on Monday, Nov. 6 against UMBC at the KFC Yum! Center.
