Projecting Louisville Women's Basketball's 2024 NCAA Tournament Draw
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2023-24 season for the Louisville women's basketball program has been one that has seen them experience a good amount of success so far, but it has also been a bit underwhelming at times by their typically lofty standards. Especially over the last month.
The Cardinals have dropped six of their last 11 games, and head into the NCAA Tournament sporting an overall record of 24-9. This means that unless they win the national title, they will clinch back-to-back double digit loss seasons foe the first time in over a decade.
Even still, Louisville is a stone cold lock to make the Big Dance when Selection Sunday rolls around in a few days. They have a ranking of No. 23 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool - or NET - a metric that the the NCAA Tournament selection committee uses in part when determining the tournament field. The only remaining question is who against, and where exactly, the Cards will be kicking off their NCAA Tournament run.
Fortunately, bracketology is in full swing with less than a week to go until the Field of 68 is revealed, so we have some idea as to what Louisville's NCAA Tournament draw will be.
The most noteworthy and well-respected women's basketball bracketologist, ESPN's Charlie Creme, has the Cardinals as a No. 6 seed against No. 11 Auburn in Corvallis, Ore. in his most recent update. As the city implies, this matchup is up against No. 3 Oregon State vs. No. 14 Portland, and the top two seeds in the region are South Carolina and Ohio State.
Her Hoop Stats also has Louisville as a No. 6 seed in their Mar. 14 update, and has them squaring off with the winner of a No. 11 First Four game between Vanderbilt and Arizona. This matchup will take place in Storrs, Conn., where there winner of No. 3 UConn and No. 14 Jackson State awaits them. Iowa and UCLA are the top two seeds in the region, respectively.
College Sports Madness has the Cardinals bumped down a line in their Mar. 12th update, projecting Louisville as a No. 7 seed. They're pitting UofL against No. 13 UNLV, with that matchup paired against No. 2 Stanford vs. No. 15 Hawaii. USC is the top seed in that region, with a possible matchup with No. 3 LSU waiting in the Sweet Sixteen.
CBS Sports posted just their projected seeds when they released their update earlier this week, putting Louisville as a No. 6 seed. The No. 11 seed - which will have two First Four games - in this update are Washington State, Marquette, Richmond, Penn State, Miami (Fla.) and Middle Tennessee.
The Selection Show for the women's basketball NCAA Tournament is set for Sunday, Mar. 17 at 8:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.
