Former Louisville Forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield Announces Transfer Destination

Huntley-Hatfield is the second former Cardinal to announce his transfer destination this offseason.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Another former member of the Louisville men's basketball program has found their new home.

Forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield announced Thursday that he has committed to Kevin Keatts and NC State. Huntley-Hatfield had previously been open to a return to the Cardinals, naming them to his top four transfer destinations earlier in the week.

Huntley-Hatfield is the second former Cardinal to publicly announce his transfer destination, joining guard Skyy Clark, who announced on Wednesday that he was heading to UCLA.

Huntley-Hatfield was one of eleven Louisville players to enter the transfer portal following the dismissal of second-year head coach Kenny Payne back on Mar. 13. Because of the heavy influx of portal defections, Louisville has zero scholarship returners for the 2024-25 season.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward was one of just two players to start all 32 games for Louisville this past season, and he was arguably their top player from the 2023-24 season. Huntley-Hatfield finished as the Cardinals' second-leading scorer behind Skyy Clark at 12.9 points per game, was their leading rebounder at 8.4 boards per game, and he led the team in shooting with a 56.7 field goal percentage.

After spending his true freshman year at Tennessee, the Clarksville, Tenn. native and former five-star prospect transferred to Louisville when Kenny Payne was hired as the head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season. That year, Huntley-Hatfield appeared in 24 games with 21 started, averaging 6.7 points and a team-best 5.4 rebounds per game.

With Louisville in line to return just walk-on guard Hercy Miller from last season, new head coach Pat Kelsey and his staff have hit the ground running out on the recruiting trail. Over the last six days, the Cardinals have landed transfer commitments from Reyne Smith and James Scott - both of whom played for Kelsey at Charleston - as well as former James Madison star and 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards Jr.
