Report: Louisville Center Dennis Evans to Enter Transfer Portal

The freshman, who is the fourth player to move on from the Cardinals following the end of their 2023-24 season, has also been medically cleared.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Yet another member of the Louisville basketball program's 2023 freshman class will be continuing their collegiate career elsewhere.

True freshman center Dennis Evans will enter his name into the transfer portal, according to 247Sports' Eric Bossi. Additionally, Bossi reports that Evans has "been cleared medically and that he will be good to go at his next stop."

Evans is the third Cardinal freshman to enter the transfer portal this offseason, and the fourth overall. Fellow true freshmen forwards Curtis Williams and Kaleb Glenn entered the portal on Monday, which was the first day of the 45-day spring transfer window, and senior forward J.J. Traynor opted to transfer earlier today.

The 7-foot-1, 215-pound center was a massive addition, both literally and figuratively, out of high school. Evans ranked as high as the No. 11 prospect in the nation according to Rivals, and was the No. 39 player in the 2023 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite.

Once on campus, the Riverside, Calif. native displayed his longterm potential, but was still an incredibly raw prospect. Evans played in the first seven games of the 2023-24 season, five of which were starts, totaling 11 points, six rebounds and five blocks.

Then, after missing the next six games due to what was only described as a shoulder injury, Louisville announced on Jan. 4 that Evans was no longer "medically cleared to compete" at Louisville.

“Freshman center Dennis Evans will not be medically cleared to compete at the University of Louisville moving forward," Louisville announced in a statement. "We are disappointed by the news and will not be releasing any additional information out of respect for Dennis’ privacy."

The influx of transfers following the end of Louisville's season is not a surprising development. The Cardinals finished their 2023-24 campaign with an overall record of just 8-24 and 3-17 in ACC play, resulting in the dismissal second-year head coach Kenny Payne.
