Report: Hornets Trade Terry Rozier to Heat

The former Louisville men's basketball shooting guard has spent the last five seasons of his career with Charlotte.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jordan Nwora isn't the only former Louisville men's basketball player that's on the move during this NBA season.

Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier has been traded to the Miami Heat for guard Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first-round pick, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound shooting guard is in the middle of a career year during his ninth season in the NBA. In 30 games played so far this season, Rozier's 23.2 points per game, 6.6 assists per game and 45.9 field goal percentage are all career-highs. He is also averaging 3.9 rebounds per game and shooting 35.8 percent on three-point attempts.

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the Boston Celtics, Rozier signed a three-year, $58 million contract with Charlotte as a free agent prior to the 2019-20 season. He then later inked a four-year, $97 million max prior to the start of the 2021-22 season, and the fully guaranteed deal lasts through the 2025-26 season.

Ever since arriving in Charlotte, Rozier's game has taken a tremendous step forward. He averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 272 games across four years in Boston, but over his five seasons with the Hornets, he averaged 20.0, 4.3 and 4.7 in each respective category over 298 games.

Rozier was drafted by the Celtics with the 16th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, following a two year career at Louisville. In his sophomore season with the Cardinals, he averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, and was named a member of the All-ACC Second Team.
