Watch: Danny Manning, Louisville Players Preview Virginia
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As we saw this past Tuesday, the Louisville men's basketball program's best shot against Duke proved to not be enough.
The Cardinals were able to get within three points of the Blue Devils at one point, and the majority of the second half was a two-possession game that was well within striking distance. However, a 43-28 rebounding discrepancy eventually caught up to Louisville, and Duke wound up pulling way with an 83-69 win.
Next on the docket for Louisville will be their first ACC rematch of the season, as Virginia now comes to town. The Cardinals dropped a 77-53 decision against the Cavaliers in Charlottesville back on Jan. 3, and UVA has won their last three games heading into the rematch.
"You have to understand the value of each possession, because it's going to be a low possession game because of how they play defensively," assistant coach Danny Manning said. "Reflecting back on the first game that we played, we were pretty solid in terms of taking care of the basketball. ... It's just making sure that you're contesting shots. The first time we played, (Isaac) McNeely got away from us a little bit. He made some threes, which he makes against everybody, but we got to make sure we got to limit those opportunities for some of those guys."
Prior to their matchup with the Tar Heels, Manning, guard Tre White and forward Zan Payne took time to meet with the media. They discussed the previous game vs. Duke, previewed the upcoming rematch vs. Virginia, and more.
