Watch: Danny Manning, Louisville Players Preview Georgia Tech
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - In recent days, the Louisville men's basketball program was able to take a step forward in one regard, while continuing to regress in another.
Last weekend, the Cardinals were finally able to snap their six-game losing streak thanks to a phenomenal offensive outing against Florida State, claiming a 101-92 victory. But in their most recent matchup at Syracuse this past Wednesday, their defense continued to trend in the wrong direction, suffering a 94-92 defeat at the JMA Wireless Dome.
"You go into practices, and you devise what you want to accomplish that particular day," assistant coach Danny Manning said when asked how Louisville plans to correct these recent trends in practice. "A lot of that depends on the schedule that you play.
"We'll come in, and we'll break down our opponent, watch some film on them, go out on the court and get into our normal practice sessions. Then throughout the course of our practice session, we'll have defensive breakdowns, working on what they do, whether it's a four-on-four setting, a five-on-five setting or a ball screen setting."
In their return to the KFC Yum! Center, Louisville has a very good opportunity to get back in the win column when they host Georgia Tech. While the Yellow Jackets opened up year one under Damon Stoudamire at 8-3, they have dropped 10 of their last 12 games, and were most recently destroyed by Wake Forest.
"Georgia Tech is a team that's very dangerous," Manning said. "They got off to a really good start in conference play with a big time win, and we know that they're very aggressive in terms of offensively sharing the basketball, and they're not afraid to shoot it from distance. ... We know we have to get out and extend our defensive pressure to the three point line."
Prior to their matchup with the Yellow Jackets, Manning, guard Skyy Clark and forward Curtis Williams took time to meet with the media. They discussed the previous game at Syracuse, previewed the upcoming showdown vs. Georgia Tech, and more.
