Van Lith, Louisville Dominate Wake Forest in ACC Quarterfinals

The guard scored 26 points as part of the Cardinals' largest ever margin of victory at the ACC Tournament.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Hailey Van Lith scored 17 of her 26 points in the first quarter, Chrislyn Carr added 16 points and No. 4 seed Louisville beat 12th-seeded Wake Forest 74-48 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

It was Louisville’s largest margin of victory at the ACC Tournament.

Van Lith dominated the first quarter with four 3-pointers and 17 points to help Louisville build a 20-8 lead. She was 6 of 8 from the field, while Wake Forest went 3 of 14 (21%). Van Lith finished the half with 21 of Louisville’s 34 points, but the lead was trimmed to 10 points after Wake Forest closed on an 8-0 run.

Olivia Cochran, who was limited in the first half with two fouls, scored the opening six points of the second half and Louisville extended it to a 13-2 run for a 21-point lead. The Cardinals’ lead reached 30 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Cochran finished with 11 points for Louisville (22-10). Mykasa Robinson had 10 assists and eight rebounds to go with four points.

Van Lith came just short of Louisville’s ACC Tournament scoring record of 28 points by Asia Durr in 2017. In the first meeting with Wake Forest this season Van Lith was held to eight points on 4-of-12 shooting in a 68-57 loss on Jan. 26.

Elise Williams had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Wake Forest (16-16). Jewel Spear made four 3-pointers and scored 15.
