What Kenny Payne, Mike James Said After Louisville's 80-71 Win at Miami
MIAMI - For the first time in just over two years, the Louisville men's basketball program has won a game on the road.
Facing a Miami team who had won 25 of their last 26 games at home, the Cardinals were able to stun the Hurricanes at the Watsco Center, leaving Coral Gables with an 80-71 victory.
"For my players to go out and play as hard as they did, as together as they did, through adversity and all the doubt, and then come out and play the way they did, I'm proud of them," head coach Kenny Payne said. "Against a team that's very good, one of the best offensive teams in the country. The only way to beat them is to fight for 40 minutes, and figure out what happens at the end. I'm proud of them."
Guard/forward Mike James finished with a game-high 26 points, 16 of which came in the first 7:15 on the game, shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 on three-point attempts and from the free-throw line.
"Being from like Orlando, it's a big win for me," James said. "They didn't recruit me when I was getting recruited, so I had this game marked on my schedule. I was wanting to have a good game, so I came out, shots were falling, and my teammates kept building more and more confidence in me to keep shooting, so that's what I did."
