USC Transfer Guard/Forward Tre White Commits to Louisville

The former guard/forward for the Trojans was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team this past season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's basketball program has dipped back into the transfer portal to land an impact playmaker.

Tre White, a guard/forward who spent his true freshman campaign at USC before entering the transfer portal last month, announced Saturday that he has committed to the Cardinals.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound shooting guard/small forward didn't waste any time becoming an impact player as a true freshman for USC. Making 33 appearances and 29 starts last season, White averaged 9.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while also shooting 47.4 percent from the field. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team for his efforts, and helped the Trojans go 22-11 with a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Napa, Calif native was a consensus four-star prospect by the four major recruiting services coming out of Prolific Prep, and was ranked as high as the No. 31 prospect in the nation according to ESPN. As a senior, he averaged 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game en route to guiding Prolific Prep to a 26-6 overall record.

The wing for Louisville was already looking like a relative strength heading into next season, and White's addition only solidifies that notion. The Cardinals bring back second-leading scorer Mike James and welcome five-star 2023 prospect Trentyn Flowers, both of whom - as well as White - can slide over and play the two if needed. Not to mention that UofL is also bringing in a pair of four-star 2023 wings in Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr.

The Cardinals went just 4-28 this past season in their first year under head coach Kenny Payne, and roster management has been in full swing since the end of their season. Louisville has seen seven players enter the transfer portal, with only James, J.J. Traynor, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Emmanuel Okorafor returning.

Conversely, Payne and his staff have been hard at work attempting to bring in fresh talent for next season. They are also set to bring in five-star 2023 center Dennis Evans, as well as a pair of transfers in former Illinois guard Skyy Clark and former Miami forward Danilo Jovanovich.

Louisville's five-man recruiting 2023 class, which is the first full cycle for Payne, ranks as the No. 6 class in the nation according to 247Sports. Their three-man transfer class in White, Clark and Jovanovich also cracks the top-50.
