Highlights & Evaluation: Louisville SF Commit Trentyn Flowers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's basketball program has landed another elite prospect, as Trentyn Flowers has given his verbal pledge to play for the Cardinals.
Here is Louisville Report's full evaluation:
Prospect: Trentyn Flowers
Position: Shooting Guard/Small Forward
Vitals: 6-foot-8, 210 pounds
School: Charlotte (N.C.) Combine Academy
Top Offers: Alabama, Creighton, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina
247Sports Composite Rating (Nat'l Rank): 0.9918 (20th)
Highlights:
Frame: Flowers isn't lanky or wiry per se, but he does have good overall length and wingspan. Not to mention that he has plenty of room to add muscle and weight, but is also well toned for someone of his weight class. For someone who regularly matches up against twos and threes, he's got the frame to go toe-to-toe against most players at his position.
Athleticism: The film routinely shows that Flowers is one of the most athletic forwards in the class. He's got a good first step and great burst/agility overall, can navigate around defenders both on and off the ball relatively easily, and regularly showcases his great vertical.
Instincts: Flowers is a player who consistently delivers on the drive, thanks in part to his athleticism and an arsenal of moves he has. He is excellent at the hop step and the up and under, and also has a solid hesitation drive as well. He's got great timing on putbacks, whether that be attacking from outside the paint and swooping in, or if he's battling down low. A lot of his putbacks turn into dunks, and Flowers is not one to shy away from slamming it home period. He also sometimes mixes in an impressive post move close to the baseline from time to time. He's also bordering on two-way player status, and does well in transition defense thanks to his athleticism and vertical.
Polish: For someone of his weight class/frame, Flowers is a very good finisher through contact, routinely displaying a soft touch with either hand, even when getting in the thick of things or falling away from the basket. He's a bit of a streaky outside shooter, connecting on just 27 percent of his three-pointers during his junior year. However, he has good overall form on his actual jump shot with a high and moderately quick releases. He does a good job of getting his teammates involved, but would like to see more of it at the next level. His timing on putbacks also bodes well when it comes to rebounding, but sometimes relies more so on that more than boxing out an opponent.
Bottom Line: Flowers will have to put on a little but of weight, but he has an incredibly high ceiling regardless of which class opts to join. The wing is a bit of a log jam for Louisville as of right now, but given Flowers' athleticism and immediate potential at either the two or the three, he makes for a big time pickup for the Cardinals. On top of that, Flowers is one of the older prospects in the 2024 cycle, so the reclassification to 2023 should not be as daunting as it normally is.
