Louisville '23 Commit Trentyn Flowers Signs Letter of Intent

The North Carolina guard/forward was one of the top prospects in the Class of 2024 before reclassifying to the 2023 cycle.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Roughly a month after giving his verbal pledge to the Louisville men's basketball program, the Cardinals have received a signed National Letter of Intent from Class of 2023 commit Trentyn Flowers, the program announced Tuesday.

The guard/forward is the second player to officially sign with Louisville on the first day of the regular signing period, joining Illinois transfer guard Skyy Clark.

"Trentyn is one of the most talented young players – regardless of class – in the country," head coach Kenny Payne said in a release. "He's a 6-8 guard who can score, rebound, pass and defend, and he's an elite athlete with a very good basketball IQ. He has a bright future in his game and has the discipline and work ethic to be a great basketball player. He's as excited as we are for him to be a part of this basketball program."

Flowers had been one of Payne's top high school targets regardless of class ever since he returned to his alma mater. Flowers was one of three players that Payne reached out to on the first day of the unlimited contact period last summer, he took an official visit to campus and Louisville Live this past October, and also made a return trip to campus in February for an unofficial visit before committing on Mar. 17.

Originally a member of the Class of 2024 before reclassifying when he committed to Louisville, the 6-foot-8, 210-pound wing was ranked as high as the No. 5 small forward and the No. 16 player in the 2024 cycle, according to On3. He is now a 247Sports Composite four-star prospect in the 2023 class, coming in as the No. 31 overall player in the nation according to the metric.

Flowers had an extremely productive freshman campaign for Huntington (W.Va) Prep, averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game. He transferred to Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon midway through his sophomore year, then later transferred to Combine Academy this past summer, where has averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 26 games during his junior year.

Louisville went just 4-28 this past season in their first year under Payne, and roster management has been in full swing since the end of their season. Louisville has seen seven players enter the transfer portal, including leading scorer El Ellis. Only Mike James, J.J. Traynor, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Emmanuel Okorafor are returning.

Conversely, Payne and his staff have been hard at work attempting to bring in fresh talent for next season. So far this offseason, Louisville has landed Flowers, Clark, and five-star 2023 center Dennis Evans. They are also set to welcome top-70 wings Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr., plus JUCO guard Koron Davis as part of their 2023 signing class. Only Evans and Davis have yet to officially sign.
