Louisville Football Bowl Projections: 2023 Week Eight

Two bowls are beginning to stand out for the Cardinals among projectors.
In this story:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program might have suffered their first loss of the season, but in terms of what bowl they will go to and their matchup, there's still plenty of time for them to add more wins to their record and increase their bowl desirability.

The Cardinals (6-1, 3-1 ACC) have five games left on their schedule, and four of them are at home, where Louisville has played considerably better than they have away from L&N Stadium. Of course, there's still plenty of football left where everything and anything could happen, so bowl projections are still pretty varied up to this point. But a couple are starting to stand out among projectors - the Gator Bowl and the Sun Bowl.

As a reminder, the ACC utilizes a system where they organize bowls with conference tie-ins into two tiers, but there is no selection order within each tier. The league and their bowl partners "will make team selections based on several factors, including geographic proximity, avoiding repeat appearances and matchups, and regular-season won-loss records," according to the ACC's official website.

The Cardinals will officially learn their postseason draw on Sunday, Dec. 3, following the end of conference championship weekend. The College Football Playoff selection show begins at 12:00 p.m. that day, and Louisville will learn their bowl shortly after.
