North Carolina Transfer DB Cam'Ron Kelly Commits to Louisville

After originally transferring to Virginia, the former All-ACC safety is ending his time in college with the Cardinals.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Post-spring recruiting for the Louisville football program continues to skyrocket.

Safety Cam'Ron Kelly, who spent the first four years of his collegiate career at North Carolina, announced Monday that he has committed to play his final season of eligibility with the Cardinals.

Kelly is the third player to commit to Louisville following their spring game on Friday night, where he was one a half dozen Division I transfers in attendance. Class of 2024 offensive lineman Ransom McDermott gave his verbal pledge on Saturday, while former Rutgers offensive tackle Willie Tyler did so on Sunday.

He originally entered the portal and transferred to Virginia this past January, participated in spring ball with the Cavaliers, but hopped back in the portal last week.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defensive back was a regular fixture of the Tar Heels' secondary during his four seasons in Chapel Hill. This past season, he started all 12 regular season games, collecting 49 tackles (30 solo), an interception, a pass break up and assisting on a tackle for loss.

The Chesapeake, Va. native's best season came in 2021 as a junior, appearing in all 13 games with nine starts. He set a career-high in tackles with 69, snagged a team-best four interceptions, and also tallied three pass break ups en route to Third-Team All-ACC honors.

Over his four years and 42 games played with UNC, Kelly logged 180 total tackles (107 solo), five interceptions, seven pass break ups, a forced fumble and two tackles for loss. He was a four-star player and the No. 221 prospect in the Class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite.

While the Cardinals are losing former All-ACC corner Kei'Trel Clark to the NFL Draft, their secondary is still in good shape for 2023. They retain starting safeties M.J. Griffin and Josh Minkins, starting cornerbacks Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Quincy Riley, while also bringing in transfers Marquis Groves-Killebrew and Devin Neal from Texas A&M and Baylor, respectively.

Louisville has been incredibly active in the transfer portal since Brohm was hired as their head coach in December. While the Cardinals have lost 14 via the portal since the end of the regular season, Kelly is now the 15th to transfer in over the offseason.

The Cardinals finished their 2022 season with an overall mark of 8-5 (4-4 in ACC), including a 24-7 win in the Fenway Bowl over Cincinnati. They'll kick off their 2023 season against Georgia tech in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday, Sept. 1.
