South Alabama Transfer WR Caullin Lacy Commits to Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A near unprecedented portal recruiting run by the Louisville football program has netted them yet another elite transfer.
Caullin Lacy, a wide receiver who spent the first four years of his collegiate career at South Alabama, announced Sunday that he has committed to play his final season of eligibility with the Cardinals.
He’s the sixth portal commitment for the Cards over the last three days. Alabama wide receiver Ja'Corey Brooks and UCF cornerback Corey Thornton both committed on Friday night, while FIU defensive tackle Jordan Guerad, NIU center Pete Nygra and Miami running back Donald Chaney Jr. committed on Saturday night.
Lacy was one of the most prolific and explosive wide receivers in all of college football this past season. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver caught 91 passes for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns, with the receptions mark good for fifth in the FBS and the yardage mark coming in at sixth. He took home First-Team All-Sun Belt honors for his efforts.
The Mobile, Ala native also had a productive 2022 campaign, logging 64 receptions for 812 yards and six touchdowns. In four years with the Jaguars, he has caught 207 passes for 2,517 yards and 13 touchdowns; while also rushing 31 times for 140 yards.
Lacy's commitment is only the latest addition in what should be a stacked wide receiver room. On top of bringing in him and Brooks, Louisville is in line to return guys like Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Chris Bell. Add in Texas Tech transfer quarterback Tyler Shough, and the Cardinals' passing game looks to take a huge leap forward in 2024.
It's a massive pickup for Louisville in what has already been a string of high caliber portal pickups. At the time of his commitment, Lacy was the 19th-ranked uncommitted player in the transfer portal, and the No. 27 player to enter the portal period in this cycle, according to On3.
Lacy is the 11th player to transfer to Louisville in this cycle, and the sixth offensive skill position player following Brooks, Shough, Chaney, plus tight ends Mark Redman and Tanner Koziol. The Cardinals have also seen nine scholarship layers enter the portal since the winter transfer window opened on Dec. 4.
He is expected to sign on Dec. 20 for the first day of the early signing period. Louisville went 10-2 during the regular season with a berth in the ACC Championship Game under first year head coach Jeff Brohm, and are preparing for their Holiday Bowl matchup with USC on Dec. 27.
