Louisville Lands in Top 15 of First College Football Playoff Rankings of 2023
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With as much debate as the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll both drum up, neither poll truly matters in this day and age of college football. The one that does, which is the College Football Playoff rankings, dropped their first poll of 2023 on Tuesday.
While the Louisville football program comes in at No. 15 in the most recent AP Top 25 and Coaches Polls, the CFP selection committee viewed them in slightly higher regard, placing them at the No. 13 spot in their first rankings of 2023. It's the Cardinals' (7-1, 4-1 ACC) highest placement in the CFP Rankings since coming in at No. 13 in the final rankings of 2016.
In their first action out of the bye week, Louisville used an efficient ground game and stifling defense to take down No. 20 Duke. Jawhar Jordan ran for 163 yards as part of a 234-yard effort on the ground by the Cardinals, while the Blue Devils were held to 202 yards of offense and 51 yards rushing.
Louisville will be back in action this weekend, continuing on their three-game home stand to host Virginia Tech. Kickoff against the Hokies is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m. EST.
